Help appreciated
hi i recently started a 10 gallon saltwater tank. i elected to start with 11 pounds of reef saver rock and 10 pounds of dry sand. i bought the saltwater and tested the salinity at petco(it was adequate) i have a sun sun jvp-110 wavemaker, a preset aqueon heater (50w) rated for 20 gallons, and an aqueon quiet flow 10 rated for 20 gallons, I'm now looking for lights that suit my 10 gallon, I currently have no corals or fish, only 5 hermits, in the future I hope to keep 2 clowns, a fire shrimp, and one more undecided fish, I am also gonna start putting in corals as soon as it's safe to do so, I wish to keep a variety of corals, anemones, torch, hammers, zoas, and one day a clam, that being said I need good lights for this project, Im on a but of 150 but anything under this is perferable, I am flexible if it will continue to be useful when I upgrade. I was looking at the current usa orbit, would this be a good light?

I wouldn't put 3 fish in a 10 gallon. And I'm not sure about your filter. Do you have pictures? As far as the lighting goes, check out finnex and see if they have something small enough

Or you could go with a more expensive light that would expand your options. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

IMHO the Current USA Orbit is OK for a tank that is 12" deep and even then sps corals and the clam are pretty iffy. Look at the specs, the leds are 0.5watts. All the better fixtures use 3.0 watt leds. I'll bet there is a reason for that. And it's a fish only light if the tank is any deeper. You'd be better off with a basic MarsAqua that you could use over a deeper tank or refugium in the future.

Id shop around the used/for sale section here or nanoreef for a light.
You need to hit a certain number of posts to unlock the used selling section here. You can find some pretty decent LED fixtures in the $150 ballpark when people upgrade from their nanos to bigger systems.

I get asking the same question in several forums as a new person to the forum, but to be honest, There are tons of people, myself included, that skim through quite a few of the forums daily or even more frequently. So even if you post in a forum that wasn't the best, you'll still get plenty of help.
Anyways, I'd go with a black box chineese LED personally. I've used mine over 40 gallon tank for a few years, and over my 65 gallon for the past 6 months or so. They are adjustable so if you upgrade you can just turn the brightness up, or add more lights if you upgrade big enough to need more. 1 light is good enough for my 65 gallon, but I'd prefer 2 for a bit more light and better light spread. For a 10 gallon you'd have plenty of light for any coral. |

Used this fixture on my 10 gallon, should give you plenty of light for most easier corals.
