Does anyone have their DT in their bedroom??

I'm looking at a fairly small house, and was sort of thinking out loud about maybe considering putting a DT in the master bedroom vs. the living room.

Anyone else have one? Noise issues??

I have a 20 gallon reef tank in the bedroom. The low hum of the pumps, the overflow etc takes some getting used to, but after awhile you'll be able to tell when something is "off" by a slight variation in the overall sound of the tank. Just as an example when a snail happens to crawl onto the return nozzle in the DT this will cause the water to splash a little bit. I've awoken numerous times in the middle of the night because the tank just didn't sound the way it should. It's kind of amazing how the brain picks up on these things in the middle of a deep sleep.

Sounds like it's keeping you up.

I've had a small tank in my bedroom before, but it's not ideal. I'd rather compromise in other spaces if the rest of the home is tight.

I had my frag tank in the master bedroom but moved it to my office. Only real reason is tile flooring in the office vs carpet in the bedroom. I guess it's closer to my other fish stuff too.

I have a 90 gallon fresh water all in one in my room, as oneofmany said, when something is off you know it even in a deep sleep... For instance my BN Pleco decided to find his way into the overflow last night and woke me up stuck in the filter floss, yes it woke me but Im glad I was here to save him. I'm in the middle of setting up a 20 long marine tank in my room right now as well.

Be aware there IS noise, from the several pumps, from the overflow, etc. I find it restful. Some micro-focus on it and are driven over the edge. If you use a submerged intake in the downflow (beananimal?) it is far, far quieter.

I kept an all in one in my bedroom and I hated it. It was a large factor in me upgrading to a larger tank and putting it in the living room. The noise was minimal but it was enough to bother me.

Not at all... If anything it sounds like a babbling brook. There is that low hum from the pumps, but every now & then the ceiling fan will make more noise then those. 99% of the time everything is fine, but there have been quite a few times over an 8 year period where I've had to check the tank in the middle of the night. Like mentioned above, something just didn't sound right. (normal)

Have had 'bedroom tanks' before... With certain exceptions, I never liked bringing guests into bedroom to see tank

It sounds good but personally, I know I would want to have it as a sort of show piece and it wouldn't really get shown much to any one but my wife and kids haha. I think the living room would be the best place to show off your dedication and all that hard work!

All comes down to space though doesn't it. Make sure you make the right decision before you fill it up and change your mind though lol.

I have a 22g nano in my son's room, but I'm upgrading to a 60g shallow and setting it up in the family room. It's pretty quiet overall and the overflow has a nice soothing trickling waterfall sound (very gentle) to it. It's a good place to take a nap. He needs more room for books, so that's why we're moving (upgrading) it.
When I was a kid, all my tanks were in my bedroom and I loved it, but that's just me.

All but one of my tanks has been in my room. Not my favorite location since showing people can be a little awkward. But if it's the only place it can go, just make sure all equipment is quiet

I have a tank in my master that I like. I have tinnitus but my wife does not. She complains at night but our tank in the room is by far the best in the house. I do my best to quiet what I can but sometimes it just is not enough

I have my tank in my bed room. It was a pain for the first month or so but now that the simmer and overflow are all tuned and quiet, I really like it. I had to have mine in the bedroom because I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. I love my kids but wouldn't trust them alone with my tank for more then 1 minute.

We have slept with a noise machine for about 5 years and the tank has all but replaced the machine. Only bad thing is if it does make a different noise I pop out of bed and check on the tank. At least if there was an issue I would know about it right away.

I had a 55g FOWLR in my bedroom for years. It was so relaxing to lay in bed and watch, it was better than TV (wife loved that part)! The "noise" we found soothing as well. Just the sound of water moving, the pumps we had were virtually silent. We even had a wet/dry in the cabinet at one point and i guess it must have been a good cabinet because it blocked the noise from it.

Occasionally it would make a different sound which alerted me to check it out. I think that only happened once while we were sleeping, and it only woke me up, she slept right through the noise AND my fiddling to see what the issue was.

I have had many different tanks in my bedroom through the years, and in our most recent move, set up a QT tank in the master while getting the newer DT ready. Since all the previous tanks were FW, having a tank with more pumps and overflow noise was a bit much for me as I am a light sleeper. Wife loved it, and wanted me to setup the DT, but the hardwood floors won me that battle.

Also, I agree with having people see the tank, it is much nicer to have it in a main living space. Canadians seem much more reluctant than Americans to even go near the bedrooms in another persons house, so that and my age have combined to be a factor in that area. When I was younger, and space was a tighter option, I never had an issue with people coming into my bedroom to see a tank, and sometimes it was a great icebreaker haha.

That also said, the largest tank I ever had in a bedroom for longer than 4 months was a 36 hex front.

I've had a 90g in the bedroom once and it wasn't the greatest idea. I guess it depends on your size and setup and how sensitive of a sleeper you are. The tank had it's moments when it would just get noisy and wake me up in the middle of the night. Also, forgot my AI Sols were programmed for lightning storm and that wasn't fun at 1am. If you do I suggest building a thick stand that's well insulated. Using insulation foam to line the inside walls of the stand made a big difference

I have mine in my bedroom/living room cause I live in a rather large efficiency apartment. I really can't hear mine and it is literally 4ft away from my bed. I run a durso with sump and I actually can't really hear it unless I let the water level get down really low. My Fan to sleep with is actually louder than my tank is and I'm a very sensitive sleeper* as I can't sleep without a fan running*

I'd imagine for most people it would be awkward to show the tank. I actually enjoy being able to look at the tank and fall asleep at night. I've did it a lot actually.

I've got my 90 gallon in the master bedroom. When I first set it up I was a novice and did not really know what I was doing and it was so loud that I contemplated taking it back to the store lol.

But after some messing around with it and understanding how things work and water flow rates, I have it now where you can barely even hear the trickle into the reef ready overflow.

Biggest tips are only use DC pumps and a DC skimmer. Keep the water flow in the return pump at a low level, but right for the size and I also rigged the overflow pipe with a strand of filter media to silence the water even more.

It's so quiet now that i have to make sure it's even ON sometimes lol

I have a IM Nuvo 10g in my room and it is dead silent. The only thing that makes noise is my ATO pump (Tunze Nano) but that only happens like 4 times a day...
