The canopy on my 250 gallon tank is made primarily of 3/4 inch plywood. It's ridiculously heavy and I need help to lift it on and off my tank. I bought it from the LFS that does a lot of custom tank/stand/hood combos. No issues. That said your hood looks a lot taller than mine; mines 1 foot tall, but it's six feet wide and two feet deep.
