Repainting the backing on a 110 Tall?

I've got a 110 tall which, for some reason, I ordered with a black back. It's a DAS tank with 1/2" glass and a thick black paint on the back panel. Let's just say I'm not a fan. I've seen a tank with a deep, dark blue backing which looks much more natural. Has anyone ever scraped the backing off and repainted? Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions, or if it's even possible.

I used mineral springs and a nice thick razor blade. Took me a good 1.5 hours but it was well worth it.
