Yellow tang not so yellow

I just bought a yellow tang today and he had a rough trip home but it was eating already and acting normal. I'm just went and checked on it and it has went from yellow to a whitish color. I read that this happens at night is it true?

yes it is true they can turn a whitish color after lights out. but I do hope he isn't in your 40 gal tank, way to small for a tang
