Help With Rimless Tank & Bracing

I just bought a new 5' 7" L x 20" W x 24" T drilled tank. It's about 140 gallons and made out of 1/2" thick glass. The side are mounted on top of the bottom peice of glass and the sides are marked "tempered glass" They guy said it had never been set up and only filled it with water to check for leaks which he said it didn't. I snagged it up for $350 on craigslist!!

It has (3) 1/2" glass braces going across it. I don't like how that looks and would like to do a euro brace around the edges. I would be using 1/2" glass but would like to know how wide it should be for the euro bracing? Obviously the smaller the better but I don't know what would be appropriate with it. Thanks.

The last tank I had was a 6ft 120G (started life as a normal plastic trimmed tank) same glass thickness I think and the previous owner took the top trim off wanting that "rimless" look..

When he had it filled the glass front bowed out a good inch or so front and back..
It was scary but he had it like that for a few years..

I bought it cheap and made new trim for it and it worked great for 4 years

This appears to be a custom made tank and not one with the "plastic rim" removed.

Are you sure about that? Looks like some de-rimmed a tank and tried to reinforce it with the top braces.

Just judging from the pictures; it look like it was originally made with black silicone, and then someone removed the top brace and then used clear silicone to glue on the braces. You can even tell in the silicone job itself, look how messy the silicone is on the top braces versus the seems.

Yes. I have had a lot of custom tanks and it looks like one. It's brand new but I do agree that some one added the braces after. That's why I want to do a euro brace to make it look better. Plus 5' 7" long 139 gals seems like a odd tank to be commercially made?? Also the sides are stamped as tempered glass but the end is drilled. You can't drill tempered glass....

Is annealed glass ok to use for the euro bracing and over flow boxes or do I need tempered?

Anyone know if the bracing has to be tempered or with plate glass work?

Either glass will work as euro bracing.
