CW321 Move From a 55 to 90 Gallon Tank
I purchased a nice used 90 gallon tank with a sump, return pump, sand and canopy over the weekend. First thing to do was clean it which involved filling the tank with tap water and vinegar and letting it run for 24 hours. It has now been drained an i am now filling it with RO/DI water which I will let run for 24 hours once full and drain once more before filling again and mixing salt in. I am planning to mix the salt in the tank since space is limited to pre mix that much water. Then I will add dry sand that has been wash. I'm planning to do this slowly using a bowl so I don't make the tank too cloudy.I want to use colony marine nitrifying bacteria to help speed up the initial cycle. They say to add it and then wait a day and add fish. So someone please correct me if I'm wrong here but my plan is to follow their instructions and start transferring the 55 to the 90 1 day after I have added colony. I figure my life rock which there is 50 pound of and its been in the 55 for 10 years will have a lot of beneficial bacteria. I was also thinking that another thing that may help is if I drain 55 gallons from the 90 gallon and use all the water from the old tank to top it off.
This first post is really for me to get some insight from other members if this plan will work. I have never transfer an aquarium and want to make sure I do it right. All my fish are very hardy I have 3 different damsils, 2 clown fish, and a yellow tang who are all in very good health. I plan on posting more photos of the whole process since I found that there is not very much information out there about transferring to a bigger tank! |
