Chip in glass on new tank

I just recently bought the 112g from SCA and when I was moving it into my house I noticed the glass was chipped near one of the holes.Does this chip look like something that I should look into trying to return the tank?

Although the bullhead will support that piece of the glass, for me the chipout is on the wrong side of the hole in that it is way to close to the edge of the tank...is that a chip on the edge as well? I would certainly try to return it

That piece on the edge was the glass from that actual chip. I took it out and the chip is very thin. I would say the chip is thinner than a piece of paper.

With every chip and hole introduced to the glass there are 1000001 micro fractures....any of which could blow out

Yea, I don't really have confidence in it holding up over time. Just thought I would post here to see other opinions on it. Anyone have experience dealing with returns to SCA?

I'd be curious if their warranty holds up.

They responded to my email and want me to test if the bulkheads leak. Not too sure why it really matters since I'm most concerned about the strength of the glass in the future.

Yeah, it doesn't really matter where the chip is... Front glass, near the bulkhead holes, whatever. The fact is that you ordered a new tank, the tank has a chip in it, and you should be able to get a replacement no other questions asked. Just because you won't be able to see it once the tank is set up doesn't make it right. Aside from effecting the integrity of the glass, the chip could definitely impact the integrity of the bulkhead seal, and the pressure from tightening the bulkhead could make this much worse.

New tank=no chips or blemishes. Nothing else would be acceptable to me.

Yeah, I wouldn't accept it either. Surprising they sent a tank out with that kind of defect.

Can you get a better pic? If I was a manufacturer I would want a clear pic. Also how long have you had the tank?

Agreed. They ask for receiving parties to inspect the tank upon arrival and not sign if damage, or if delivery company doesn't give enough time for the inspection.
I hope you get a replacement, but it could go either way at this point.

Just did the leak test and water was coming out from the chip on the bottom of the tank. Also here is a better picture of the chip I'm talking about.

I had the tank delivered last Friday and kept it on the pallet until Tuesday when I moved it in.

OK! IMO they should replace/fix it. They don't seem to be disputing the fact that the damage was not cause by you. They have a good reputation here in SoCali!

I'm hoping they do, the two chips on the hole is allowing water to leak through. They also cut the return line too short and the pipe can't fully sit in the bulkhead so water leaks out of that as well.

Is the chip inside the tank or outside on bottom?

Long term, I'd worry much more about the bottom panel failing under the pressure! That is the bigger concern. Just work it out with them and let us know when it is resolved.

On the bottom of the tank. You can see the water leaking from the chip in this video.

That is what I'm mostly concerned about as well. It seems they are more worried if it just holds water though.

If the chip is on the outside and the gasket is on the inside, I don't see how it could leak

The hole has a chip on both sides. One chip is inside the tank and the other is on the outside.

The tank is leaking on the inside as I am sure the gasket doesn't cover the chip...the water will run out the bottom even if the chip wasn't there...the chip is just making it easier to run out..you could try installing the bullhead the other way around..but regardless of if it holds water then..those are two ugly chips in a brand new tank, and personally I would not be happy...
