How to clean off rocks without killing Coralline?
So we are setting up our 180g 6' - and I am moving some rocks from our 80g into it - however, I do have an algae problem. The algae is on its way out thanks to a BRS reactor, but it's still there for now.
The rocks are moving on Saturday, so I am hoping to have some way to dip them to remove the green algae, without killing the coralline.....is that even possible? Should I just kill off the coralline (and stupid Aptasia!) and start fresh, or is there a way to preserve it all? |

Just get yourself a stiff brush and a five gallon bucket or ice chest full of salt water and scrub the rocks as best you can before you transfer them to the DT. You might have to add a couple peppermint shrimp for the Aiptasia and a few snails for the remainder of the algae, but it sure beats killing everything on and within the rocks IMO.
Were you planning on adding any more rocks to the system? If so then you'll probably have another algae bloom anyways. |
