algae
I have had a really bad algae problem in past. The bookcase my 70 gal tank was on had to be rebuilt so I disassembled the tank. It seemed the perfect time to attack the algae problem. Everything is now in a heavy duty 27 gal black plastic storage bin. I have an outside marineland filter and my t5 lights on same. Mixed up a new batch of saltwater for use.
I scrubbed the coral/rock and sprayed with H2O2 to kill the algae covering same. So now I had a whole lot of dead (?) white coral rock. ONly livestock left is 2 fish and a bunch of leathers I am storing in a piece of panyhose in the bin (so i can keep track of them). It will be about another week before I can set up the tank again (fresh aragonite + saltwater).. A total of 4-5 weeks will have past. I have a bit of green and some spots of brown algae starting to regrow on the rock. Question..... Should I leave this little bit of algae on the rock for the fish to graze on or rescrub and spray with H2O2 before I put it back in the new setup? New setup will have an outside canister filter, the large Marineland outside hanging filter, and a hang-on protein skimmer. T5 lighting w/6 bulbs. I realize I will have to recycle the tank. Suggestions welcomed! |

If you strive to keep nitrates/phosphates very low algae will not be an issue..
Not sure what else I can say.. maybe turn off lights?
