new sump for 180gal advice needed

Hi guys, I am thinking to order a new sump from the same company I am ordering tank from and I can decide which one exactly would work for my 180gal reef setup. I never had sump before so I guess after the first one I would be more knowledgeable. In any case, I am planning 3 sections for skimmer, refugium and return. I dont want to have any socks installed, want skimmer to handle all the dirt and probably install small pump in skimmer section so detritus wont be collected.
Unsure if it is better to have refugium in second or third chamber , what the the adv and cons ?
Thinking of probably 80-100 gal sump, what would u recommend the height of it ?

Height depends on your stand height. I have a 36" stand with plenty of clearance inside so I use 18" height. My current 120 uses 15" height. If your equipment is big , it's hard to get things in the sump with the cabinet clearance.

My 180 sump is 44x18x18

Like 125 mentioned, stand hieght would be a big deal but I wouldn't think I would want it more then 18". If your stand is shorter then 36" I wouldn't even go 18". U will need room to work & to be able to pour buckets of water in the sump so keep that in mind.

I have a seperate 20 gallon tank as my fuge but if I had one big sump/ fuge I would put the fuge on the end & return in the middle. That way u could keep the water in the fuge section a little deeper then the rest of the sump but I also like to feed the fuge from my return. U can control the flow u want & u can take the fuge offline for cleaning or whatever reason, & not have to turn the whole system off.

Look into what you want to put inside the sump. For example which skimmer, footprint. Type of return pump internal or external. Heaters, Media Reactors. size of stand. How tall is the stand. Measuring the stand for fitment final size. Make sure that the skimmer section is stable water level wise. Refugium should be 2nd chamber. Skimmer first. Last chamber for return pump. Also you might want for the water to exit underwater to keep things quiet. With all that said I went with a 48"x20"x18". I don't use a refugium but do use filter socks so I opted for the 7" ones instead of the usual 4". Only thing I didn't do was for the water to exit underwater for reduced noise.

Ok so third chamber is easier to clean and maintain as it can be cut out of the stream. Thats a good one.

Guys basically my sump is going to be located on the other side of the wall not below the tank so I have no limit on the height, just width should not exceed I think 48-60.

So from your comments I see that height 18-20 should be good enough
