The Reef Royal 220
So here goes, I'm setting up a new tank. Woho
Just some background info, 31 yrs old. Live in Norway, been into this hobby for 3 yrs now. My first tank was and still is a RSM 250, great tank for starters but U find out fast that U would love to have more space and a sump I love the awesome variation U get with saltwater and all the life and species that makes this ecosystem so cool. Been running freshwater tanks for x amount of years, mainly Tanganyika. Tropheus, 4-5 different species. Sold it all and bought a Deltec system back then but never runned it. Went "dry" for some years but I always fall back to fishtanks The tank itself is a Aqua Medic Anthias 160. 160x67x70 - 750l I made it black and did new plumbing on it. Originally it came with 1 drain and 1 return, Im running Herbie style overflow, so I had to make 1 more for emergency. I drilled out the 25mm return to a 40mm drain, so now I got two 40mm drains. Plumbed the new return on the backside of the tank (32mm). Also got my black acrylic for the overflow box coming soon ,so stay tuned Royal Exclusiv Dreambox 150l sump RD3 Speedy 80w return. Bubbleking Double Cone 200/ with RD3 speedy 50w pump 2 RE Media reactors hardplummed into return pump. Going to use them for carbon and gfo/rowa. Schego 600w heater with thermostat controller. 2x MP40QD from Ecotech Marine 2x Radion g3 xr30w pro- might add 1 more. Tank is set up with all new and dry rock from Aquaforest. Will mainly be running AF products which Im having great success with in the other tank. Caribsea live reef sand. Started cycling last Saturday, 11.3.17 Adding Aquaforest bio s everyday for 14 days Happy reefing good people |

I like the rock work. Just make sure all of it is at least a few inches from the glass so you can clean it.

How are you liking that dreambox? That is a 100x49x35 right? I'm kicking around the idea of getting one myself which is why I ask.

Hi, sorry for the late respond. Didn't get any notifications, but I can't say Im not liking the Dreambox..Coming from a RSM 250 its a huge upgrade in all ways. Only thing for me might be that it has 7 filter socks, not having a good routine on that just yet about changing out. They get dirty fast, like every 3-4 days.. Oh yeah and the skimmer chamber could have been a bit larger for my taste, I'm planning on having two reactors piped onto the return in there with the skimmer so space is limited I would say.. But overall, very pleased with the stuff from Royal Exclusiv. U get what u pay for
Go for it |

Your plumbing work is sharp! Are the couplings that connect your returns to the sump cemented in place, siliconed in place, or is the PVC just seated in the coupling?

Thanks, Im really happy with it myself. The red pipes are glued into the acrylic from factory. The grey pvc fitting is glued down to the pipe so I feel sorry for the guy that buys it after me.. Or if I encounter any issues. Didn't know any other way to get it leakproof :P Silicon might do the trick though.

One thing you might want to consider for asthetics is to switch out the red pipe in the display tank area for black pipe. I'm thinking the red draws too much attention to itself in a display tank where the focus is fish and corals there. Just an idea... I hope you don't mind me throwing it out there.

Cool, you will be very satisfied with it I am sure. And the RE section on here is amazing, and Slief does a great job helping out everyone`s issues.
Yeah I have been thinking about it, but it has some algae growing on it and with time the purple might grab a hold on it so I'm not so concerned with it anymore. In the start I paid more attention to it. Throw it all out there tbh |

very nice system! cool plumbing.
I used to keep tanganyikans as well. I loved the fish from that lake. very unique. tropheous are so beautiful but i always had a thing for the tanganyikan compressiceps family. Such neat looking fish.. and cyprichromis.. and good ol' brichardi.. and the shell dwellers.... man, i loved keeping those fish! this is making me want to set up another tanganyikan tank!.. Anyways, i like your scape. What types of corals do you plan to keep? you have all the tech to go full sps..

Thanks ! First time plumbing and having a sump so well pleased with it.. Yeah tanganyika is a cool place with tons of species. Might have a tropheus tank again in the future, now I spend to much money on this hobby :/
At the moment I have some Lps corals like, elegance and hammers. Bubbletip anemone and just recently I picked up 6 crates of sps corals off a fellow reefer that was reducing his load.. So its gonna be a mix but mainly sps. |

Some changes have been made to the system, took down my Radions and got my new Pacific Sun Hyperion S 3x75w - 4x54 t5 lamp up. Everything is looking good actually, may swap some of the t5 tubes out for different colours. Or just tweak the LED.
Dont get me wrong, I like G3 Pro but wanted to try something different. Also got my doser up, doing 100ml of 123+ from AF. Pictures to come. |

So as promised.. pictures. Sorry for being lazy .
I'm having some bad case of browning of corals, due to starvation and or moving from a established tank to mine. I'm working my way back though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ok guys, I need some help. Let me shed some light on it, I have been using AF probiotic salt since the start of this tank, 11 of March it started cycling.
I have been using Np Pro and Pro bio S for no3/po4 reduction (ULNS) system.. I thought that WC 10% every other week would be sufficient. I changed to every week for the past month. I feed anywhere from 2-4 times a day with frozen, nori/flakes or pellets.. I mix it up. Yet my No3 won't budge and is constant on 25ppm with Salifert. And my Po4 is currently at 0.21 Hanna Checker and 0.15-20 ppm with Nyos Reefer kit. I can slow down my feeding I guess. I use RODI water - reads at 0 TDS, I will test that water for No3/Po4 I usually clean out my collection cup once a week. Running a RE Double Cone 200 so it should be suited for the tank, and the gunk it takes out makes me think its working good. Maybe can be tweaked for better performance. I have a decent CUC, hermits, trochus/nassarius snails.. few sand sifting starfish. Fishstock atm is 16 or 17.. So give me some ideas of what I might be doing wrong cause I can't see em clearly. Thx |
