What's living in my phosphate reactor?

I've got BRS Granular ferrous Oxide running in my side mount phosphate reactor.

What are these little white fellas living in there. I believe I've seen pineapple sponges (I think that's their name) in my sump filter before, but these look different.

Anyway, leave 'em be or get' em out? Are they adding to or taking away from the purpose of the reactor?

Thanks!

Cass

Hard to really see but I suspect some sort of sponges with GFO particles caught on them..
Its fine to just leave them..
