quick opinion/question

If you wanted a separate frag/growout tank, a DT, and a sump, would you want the frag tank separate, or plumbed in to share the same sump as the DT?

Why or why not?

If you want to use it as QT, then it needs to be a completely different system. If you want to just raise and store stuff to swap in/out of the display, then the same sump with the same water is a good idea.

Mine are totally separate form each other for several reasons. I like having them isolated from each other so that if something does happen to one, the other is there to serve as emergency housing. I also have another tank that is used only as a QT and is drained and cleaned between uses.

I would plumb them together, because It would be cheaper and require much less maintainence, but if it was to crash you would lose both tanks.

I prefer them tied together, it's one less tank to that you have to test parameters for, less expense due to shared equipment.

My frag tank (25g) shares a 125g sump/fuge with a 65g shallow reef. I like the idea of my little frag tank having the benefit of being attached to a big system so it shares lots of water.

Current Tank Info: 120 mixed reef with 40b sump, RO 150 skimmer, AI Sol Blue x 2, and a 60g Frag Tank with 100g rubbermaid sump. 2 x Kessil A360w lights, BM curve 5 skimmer
