Unable to open pump!

I'm unable to open this pump to clean it's
Impeller. I removed the screw.

It's from a Diablo skimmer.

Should I use a wrench?
Don't wanna break it!

Thx

so looking top down, I'll push down, turn left?

I do see three tabs on the side well locked.

Will hot water or a heat gun help?

Never used heat gun or hot water just turn really hard lol sorry could use a screwdriver and hammer and tap light on one fin in the bottom corner to free it up. You could try the hot water but I would pass on heat gun don't want to melt things.

Just turn left. See how the sides get thinner where the tabs are, as you turn the tabs pull up on the little ramp looking sides

Channel locks work fast and won't break it unless you squeeze them too hard. Just use 2 of the fins for support and spin.

I used screwdriver to tap the fins one fin broke...

But finally its out.

The damn impeller is cracked...
Expensive too!
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/272332093196

I got the skimmer used...
Is Diablo a good skimmer?
Wonder if it's worth changing impeller...Ill use it as a backup skimmer. Thanks

Fyi, similar thing happened to skimz skimmer impeller. It was cracked so ordered new impeller (87.00) found out my whole pump was old, ended up just sending it back buying whole new pump (120.00) not saying you need to buy a whole pump, but if it's an older unit, then might be worth getting new pump. Good luck

The pump is a psk 600 best way to get the cover off. Get a 1 and quarter inch pvc t place it over the opening and mark the 3 ridges on the cover then cut down the 3 marks with a Dremel or similar then you have a key to take it off so easy.hope this helps.

Generally a small pump can be cleaned very well by running it in white vinegar overnight, and that is an easy no-headache first step. But if you think a snail, eg, could be blocking the impeller, or the impeller is replaceable, then getting into it is necessary.

The manifold does not come off, it is only the intake (circle) that screws in. you can see the slots lock in.
