Strange Anemone

Hey Everyone,

I have a BTA with a clown hosting it. When I got the anemone it moved like 2 inches and then stayed put. I noticed that part of it doesn't like to inflate the arms.

What does this look like is happening there in the top right corner of the nem?

It's been like that for a couple weeks now. Everything else seems "fine". Water parameters are all in check NO3 is 5ppm, 9.5dkh, 420ppm CA++, 8.2pH, 1.025ppt SG, 76 degrees...There is only a clown, a feather duster, and the anemone. No weird hitchhikers, I have looked at night as well.

Thanks!

Maybe lighting? I know mine likes alot of light. Can you increase your lighting intensity or is it static (ON/OFF)?

Its just on or off. However, I find it strange that the part of the nem that is further from the light opens up fine. It's the part closest that is acting strange and just in that one area.

Could be discomfort of some sort. How long have they looked like that?

I've had it for about a month. I have checked and double checked for anything crawling on it or biting it etc. Maybe the clown is bothering it but it's strange that it's only in that one area. There are no tears on its foot either.

Yes I have fed it twice. Pieces of raw shrimp. It catches flakes also when I feed the clown.

Have you tried moving, turning or re-orienting the rock it is on to see if the behavior changes?

No I haven't tried moving it. I figured if it didn't like its spot it would move on its own. I'm wondering if maybe it's splitting.

Just an update. The anemone doesn't have any arms that look weird anymore. I have learned that my BTA will act a certain way (shrink up/get smaller) when it's taking a mega dump.

Anemones do all kinds of strange behaviors and they can take long times to change even when something looks wrong. IMHO when it comes to anemones, really just let them be and they'll do their own thing.

The old saying is,"Nothing good happen quickly in a marine aquarium." And that goes double or triple for anemones!
