removing calcium ring from used tank?
I have a buddy that had a 150 gallon tank given to him and he is telling me it has a white ring around the entire tank about 6 or 8 inches down from the top. I am assuming that water was left in the tank at this level for who knows how long. I recommend laying it on its side and pour vinegar on it and soak overnight then take a razor blade to it. The report was that that didnt work. Someone else he knows told him to fill it with water and pour a gallon of muratic acid in it. He told me that doesnt seem to be working either. Any suggestions as how to maybe remove this ring and save the tank?

Muratic acid will make quick work of it... just take the normal precautions and it washes away and dilutes with plain old water. Vinegar is like throwing a baseball at a locomotive compared to Muratic Acid. 1 gallon of Muratic in 150 of water is too weak to do much.
