Bean overflow with a Aqueon Megaflow
Hello all!
Thanks in advance for the help! So i got my hands on a really cheap Aqueon 180 tank thats pre-drilled and equipped with the laughable Megaflow. So im trying to figure out how to setup a completely silent overflow with either a herbie or a bean animal style system. Each of the 2 towers have 2 holes drilled in the bottom, so im thinking about returns coming up in each of the 2 towers and one tower would get a complete siphon while the other is a wet emergency overflow in the other tower. Does this sound doable? any other ideas? I really dont wanna drill the back of the tank, but im still half tempted to plug the 4 bottom holes with bulkheads and drill a new weir into the back... Thanks for the advice!

I suppose I could also use all 4 overflow holes for the full bean animal return and drill 2 return holes in the back panel?

1 full siphon on each joined by a gate valve before it hits your sump

Side note, How much water can a 1 (1 & 1/4" ?)inch pipe in full siphon actually move? im sure the answer isnt simple because google certainly dosent give a simple response to that question...

Some of the plumbing gurus can answer better. You will get a surprisingly large amount of flow thru 1 inch pipe. As long as it drains without a bunch of level sections and as few turns as possible. You can also use 1 1/2 pipe everywhere except the bulkhead.

not a bean overflow, but i recently re-plumbed my megaflow with the gurgle buster design and it is very quiet. My tank has a basement sump also, so I am actually quite surprised with how quiet it really is.

Edit: A full siphon would most likely get rid of even more of the water trickling sound. I could try and take a video for you if you'd like. |
