how often do you need to clean the glass
Was curious how often the rest of you are cleaning the glass on the inside of your tanks. I am finding a brownish film almost daily that i use the two little fishies magnet cleaner to clean off. strictly Ro water for top off and ocean water for water changes.
Let me know if this is something everyone struggles with or what i can adjust to avoid such rapid growth. my levels are as follows: PH:8.1 Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate:2 Salinity:1.025 Thanks in advance! |

Most likely you have an excess of phosphate. I clean mine every 5-7 days typically.

Once every two days. Excess nutrients due to bioload and feeding.

Get some snails to clean it up and you shouldn't have to clean the glass as much min became a daily job untill I got snails now I just do it once a week and the tank looks great.

I can't see through mine by 5 days. I've also never seen snails make more than their little tooth mark "footprint" lines through it and that's nowhere near enough to make the glass see-through again.
If you're dosing carbon at all (including bio-pellets) I think you can expect to have to clean the glass frequently.

I shoot for once every 3-4 days. Snails are not really going to help clean the glass all that much unless you put in a ton. I also have my tank by a huge sliding glass door so the front where the substrate meets the glass tends to build up and I use a razor scrubber on that about once every other week.

I clean mine every 2 weeks. I use a razor blade to scrape off coralline algae off the glass before it etches the glass.

Everyday, because I like sparkling clean glass. Not necessary nutrients issue if you have to clean it everyday, it grows because your tank is alive. Having a bit (fuzzy looking glass) is fine.

Depends on your nutrient load---it can be every 6 hours in a bad overload. Should be maybe once a week. I like to carry enough film algae to support a blenny---don't have one at the moment, but microlife also eats it, and I figure the more complex the life chain in the tank, the healthier. Too clean is not for me.

Every OTHER day for me!!
And I feed sparingly - 1/2 a cube a day - and put in a SMALL amount of seaweed for my Scopas tang 2-3 times a week - and my Nitrates are between 2 and 5 ppm! BIG water changes EVERY frigging week! I go through frigging scrapers like a sailor does with money in a bar, FSS!!

Once or twice a week for me. If I put it off for too long I get snail trails and spots from where my tail spot blenny has been nipping at the growth. If I wait waaaay too long, the harder it is to get off. I do have a nutrient problem tho. My algae is a problem.

Pretty much as needed. I don't get crazy growth but when I can notice a large area I'll make a pass around my tank. To me it's just another part of keeping a beautiful tank. I don't find it to vs a hassle at all.

One thing about old vs news mechanisms I would say a factor might be light output vs light absorbtion.
