Red dragon pump pulsing
I think My red dragon on vertex alpha 170 is dying. It runs for a second then stop then run again.
Anyone runs into this issues? Thanks |

Check out this thread and particularly post 2 (often overlooked part of that pump) of this thread. You should take the pump apart completely. Do a 10 minute vinegar soak and scrub it inside and out. Don't soak the o-rings. Remove the bearing as per post 2. Clean it and put it back in place. Inspect the magnet and make sure it does not spin on the shaft. It's bonded to the shaft and some people like to do prolonged vinegar soaks which softens the epoxy and damages the pumps.
If a deep cleaning doesn't fix the issue and your impeller (magnet is fine) than chances are your motor block died. The only thing that kills those blocks is a lack of maintenance and or not properly cleaning them. Calcium can build up inside the block and or in the bearing at the base of the block (post 2 of the thread below) and that causes excess load on the block which will kill the block. This is the thread: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2573406 This is the replacement block and they are in stock in the Florida warehouse. http://royalexclusiv.com/Spare-Parts...-250::123.html

Thanks.
I took it apart, the magnet and and motor are fine, no built up. I'll try to remove the piece at the bottom in the morning. Best regards |
