In search of a blue fish
Can anyone out there give me a good idea of a blue fish I can add to my current tank stock?
I LOVE Powder Blues, but so many folks have trouble with ich. I need something pretty mild mannered and on the small/med size. No damsels, they are too aggressive for my stock |

i suppose a lot depends on the size of your tank but a Genicanthus wattanabei is a pretty blue, medium sized fairly easy going and reef safe angel

One of my favs is the red head solon because the colors are crazy, price isn't crazy, easy to keep, and very peaceful IME.

Wow, okay so the wattanabei angel is a STUNNING fish - I just don't have that kind of money for one fish. They range in price from $150-$350, and I think they are considered rather difficult to keep aren't they?

watanabei gets too big as well.
You said no damsels, but a yellowtail damsel would be a good fit, imo.

What about anything that has a lighter blue color like that of a powder blue? I like damsels; but IME once they get to be a certain size, even the milder mannered ones get mean - even chromis
There must be something out there that I am missing or never seen - that doesn't require I mortgage my home to buy LOL |

I have a powder brown tang that is healthy as he can be. Came from liveaquaria. Hates his reflection though.

African flame back angel? Coral beauty? Both can be hit or miss interns of being reef safe and both can be aggressive for some time towards fish added after them.
There are also bunch of fairy wrasses that are at least partially blue. For 60 gallons there are not many fish that fit to all your constrains, wattanabei angel or powder blue require tanks that at least double of your. |

The springeri damsel is a beautiful electric blue with startling black contrasts. If you have a clown, I think this species will be no worse. I keep mine with a pair of ocellaris clowns, an orchid dottyback, a YWG and a lawnmower blenny. He's the wimp of the tank, and was added last.

I wouldnt disregard damsels so quickly. Your current stock would just fine with a damselfish. I have a Fiji blue devil in my tank with the following fish ; 2 maroon clownfish, 2 longnosed hawkfish, yellow tang, kole tang, royal gramma, melanarus wrasse, neon dottyback, lyretail anthias, flame angel, and valentini puffer.

I believe a couple yellow tail damsels would work with what you have. They have nice blue colors on them n suppose to be nicer of the damsels..

Blue Reef Chromis (Chromis cyaneus) are nice. Much brighter than the more common green chromis.
Or how about a Chalk Bass (Serranus tortugarum)? Longspine Cardinalfish (Zoramia leptacantha) have a nice blue eye and their bodies shimmer, plus they like to school together.

Sapphire Damsels are a beautiful sapphire blue ( go figure) and are very peaceful despite being Damsels. I have 5 and they're model citizens.

Ok, so maybe I dismissed the damsel group too soon. I will do some looking at all the suggestions. Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions!

My yellow tail damsels don't bother any of my other fish at all. I would recommend them.

You didn't dismiss damsels too soon. Every time I've gotten them I've regretted it. Check other threads on damsels and chromis and you'll recall why you dismissed them.
For blue I went with a blue background foil and some blue toned corals.
