Adding My First Fish
Hi! I am new to reefing and was wondering, what fish are good first additions for a 66 gallon cycled tank with live rock and a clean up crew? How many fish should I first add? Thank you!

General rule is least to most aggressive. I would start by looking at live aquaria for fish recommendations for that size tank. You have a lot of options. Do you plan on keeping coral? That will also determine what kind of fish you can keep.

Yes I do plan on keeping coral. I was thinking of just starting off with a pair of ocellaris clownfish. Is that okay? I don't need what kind of fish as much as i need how many. Should I add just 1 or 2 to start off, or more/less? |

Only thing I can say is add what you really like. Don't add a damsel just due to price as a "test" fish lol

If you want to add clowns first, then you should add them together to prevent aggression. 1 or 2 to start, and then wait a week before adding more fish, ideally only one or two more. by adding a small amount of fish weekly, it gives your system time to gradually build up bacteria populations to maintain a fully stocked tank.

Clownfish can be aggressive...so depending on what fish you're looking at...might be better to add them later. My first 3 fish, in order, were a Bangaii Cardinal, Royal Grama and recently a Melanurus Wrasse. Adding a clown pair next once my Melanurus is out of QT.
