Toadstool unhappy
Hey guys I have a tyree toadstool my parameters are on point ... all other corals good. My toadstool looked good too after intro... I dipped prior to entry. Anyways for past couple of days it’s still got it shape and is stiff at the stall but all the polyps are retracted ... I was hanging around and saw my flame angel nipped it like 4 times in 4 different spots lol.
Anyways i was like noooooo but since then the angel left it alone from my observations and my zoas and other corals are all good and angel I’m guessing did it for curiosity. Is it normal that the tyree is just upset and it will take time? Or is there any recommendations I can take? I don’t want to wait too long and it be too late thanks guys Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

yes this is normal. just leave it alone and it will open back up. It may take days, or weeks but it will open back up.

Provided you have great light...leathers love moderate to higher light and your ALK is 8-12...they don't like High Alk (GTA 12) ....moderate flow....then yup...just leave him alone

Most likely shedding, it will do this occasionally.

yes its VERY common for leather corals to close up to shed skin,etc...
They may stay closed for a day up to a week or more and as long as they don't look like they are totally melting then they are just fine.. I've had leathers stay closed for a month then come back out bigger and better than before.. The will also tear/rip in sections to reproduce/clone themselves..

Flame angels, and really all angels, are known to nip corals and clams. it could be irritating the coral and that is why the polyps are retracted. You will know soon enough. If it recovers in a week or so it will be fine. Sometimes they just nip and don't do much damage, but I have heard of them eating entire LPS colonies. Not really a reef safe fish. Some are but some aren't, kind of a gamble.

Mcgyver is on point. My toadstools are huge and now dominate one of my softy tanks. They do go through a morph stage where the polyps dont come out for a week or weeks at times. They get a silver sheen and then seem to come back stronger than ever. They also slpit or tear, drop onto the Bare bottom I have and then grow anew.
