Number of Radion question

How many Radion gen 4s would you put over a 225?
72 x 27.5 x 27.5
Tank will be sps dominant tank
Unfortunately I’m going to be mounting them in a good and they might be 6 inch off the water
Thanks

I would put a 30 every foot. Don't underestimate how bad the spread is, even with a diffuser. It is a shame that you cannot raise them up any more. 10 15s staggered might get the job done pretty well since you can spread them out more than a 30.

Dr. Joshi used 10 Radions to replace 3 MH that were on his tank - you really need a lot if you are going to be hardcore into acropora... not as many for MBP&S.

Yeah If I thought things out more I would have gone with the 15s. But I got 3 of the 30s so I already committed to them so...

How should I run them front to back or left to right. A while ago I watched the brs video on them and was thinking 6 of them front to back . We’ll see

It's not spread that's the problem with radions (or with any of the mostly point source lights) it's shading as the SPS grows. Three 30s would be more than sufficient for a 6' tank initially, but as the SPS colonies grow, the point source nature means you'll get shading issues.

I really don't get why folks run these lights perpendicular to the long axis of the tank ..... unless your goal is to actually grow algae on the front panel. I have four over my 8' 450 that is 3' wide/deep and I orient them parallel to the long axis. I just don't keep any SPS on the sand for the first 6".

I have opined in the past that buying 15s rather than 30s is preferred. Of course, this didn't occur to me until AFTER I had bought the 30s
