5-15g ATO reservoir ideas.
Looking for some clever/not sore to the eye ideas for a 5-15g reservoir for our ATO. For the last year we’ve been using a Lowe’s bucket inside of an old woven clothes hamper covered with some neatly folded throws
 Looking for something nice that could hopefully replace that “setup”. Any ideas very much appreciated! |

Not sure what was wrong with your "hamper hider" so I can't comment on what you may like better..

If you can go directly to your sump from the RO/DI that is your best bet. Then no worries about it. Think about your home layout and the nearest sink. If you can get tubing to your tank from it, you have your answer.

Can you not just put a pump in the RO/DI collection container and plumb a line directly to the tank?

I just folded and bought an all black 7.5g acrylic ATO container off e-bay and put it next to my stand (which is black). It will make life easier (inside the stand was always a PITA and needed the space), looks OK and has cool viewing windows and access doors, but is still a little extra box by my tank.
In terms of being the least eye sore, having it hidden in something typically in living spaces, or furniture, is actually a neat idea. Now I am thinking of using a fake plant with its pot as the holder, which could be a cool hidden solution! Hmmmm, might have to try that...

An RO plumbed direct to the tank for ATO is DEFINITELY NOT recommended.
This causes to much on & off which actually is no good for the membrane.

Each supply line has a normally closed solenoid attached right before going into the container. Install three float switches, one on the normal water level, one on the low level, one one at the highest acceptable water level as an emergency shut off. The normal water level float switch triggers one of product line solenoids so when the water level drops the RO will start to fill up the container. You then put this solenoid on a timer so it only allows the container to be filled at a set time. This way you can keep the unit running for a few hours. The low water level float switch triggers the other solenoid on the other product line and opens it when the container is nearly empty. This solenoid is also tied to the normal water level float switch, so when it is triggered, this solenoid closes and stops filling. The emergency float switch triggers both solenoids and shuts them off at the same time. The easiest way to program all of this is with an apex but it can be done with conventional timers. This is how mine is set up.

Im lazy and needed a wife approved one. So I got this one. Not cheap but I love it. I wish I got a slightly bigger one as it looks very nice. I think mine is 13g
