Green Machine

Looking for a small UV for a QT tank. Other than the dopey name, anyone have any experience with the 9w green machine?

I tried those on my fresh water tanks a few years ago. They are sensitive to power spikes and the like. I ended up taking them back for a refund as the bulb kept blowing every time we would have a brown out or an outage. Not worth it in my opinion.

Reviews all around the web appear to have mixed results. IMO it wouldn't be worth the cost in a QT. On one hand if you constantly have fish in the QT I understand the idea/reason for using a UV. On the other hand, once you move all fish from the QT to the main tank, a simple 100% WC and cleaning would reset it. Thus making it clean for the next livestock. In theory at least that's how I see it.

Used it in a 20 gallon freshwater that turned into a phytoplankton farm a while back. Cleared it up in a couple days while only on a few hours a day. If I plugged it into the correct outlet it would have been done same day.

I don't really see the need on a qt. It will not be set to the proper flow rate to kill pathogens.

Not sure about the green machine, but I've used and still use the TMC Vecton UV Sterilizers. Check out the link, maybe it's something you can use.
