Just found aiptasia in my tank. Can I do this?

I only see one. I have never had aiptasia before. Can I just mix up some reef epoxy and put it over it then remove the epoxy a few day later? I am using the reef safe ocean wonders jb weld kind of stuff..

Covering the anemone in epoxy is a valid option, but I probably wouldn’t try to remove it later. It will eventually just get covered with algae and disappear and removing epoxy from rocks is difficult.

if you can take the rock out of the tank and use a torch lighter and burn the infected area, then rinse well with salt or rodi water, it will get rid of aiptasia for good. if taking rock out of tank is not an option then simply plug the area with epoxy and do it quick before aiptasia has a chance to cough up and spread more around the tank. it knows when danger is approaching and it coughs up material which turns around and grow all over the tank as new baby aiptasia.

That sounds like a plan. It is on a small rock covered with some nice purple mushrooms but I think I can burn it off with a butane torch and set it back in. Never would have considered that option. Thanks!

if it's a small rock, i'd take a chisel to it. take out a bigger chunk than you have to, aiptasia is the worst!

All previous post are valid. That said I have never had luck with Peppermint Shrimp. The problem with covering them with epoxy is they can be attached deep down in the rock. Since most reef rock is very pores the aiptasia will usually exscape around the epoxy plug.

For me! If it is easy to get to. Cold Press or fresh squeezed Lemon Juice in a 1ml Syringe, Stab it the mouth (the aiptasia) and squirt. GONE! Most aiptasia have a tendency to try and grab the syringe needle with their tentacles since they think they are grabbing food.

Good Luck!
