***: Derasa and Clownfish?
So, currently, I have two maxima clams doing fine in my tank. Today, I added a Derasa, didn't think it was a big deal but now my Cinnamon Clownish decided that she is going to bite the S$%T out of it. She's been bothering him all day, he tries to come out and she bites him right in the middle of the mantle. I tried moving him a few times, thinking it's a territorial thing. I have the lights off now so the fish go to bed, but what gives? Anyone experience this before?

My clowns try to destroy anything I add within about a 9" radius of their nest.

Tank Cycle Question
Hi, Everyone.
So I recently set up a 20g nano with live rock that I used from my 2 year old SPS main display. Also 15 gallons of water from my SPS main display were used to fill this nano, along with 5 gallons of fresh water. Still, I started my ZEOvit cycle which should have ammonia spike to about .25ppm and drop over a few days. The next day, I tested both ammonia and nitrite and they registered 0. Because I used water and rock from my main display, is it possible my tank was able to cycle that fast? How long would you guys wait to add two clownfish? Thanks Joey |

Reusing the water has no value as far as the cycle goes, but since your rock was all fully cycled there should not be a cycle. You will be fine adding the clowns but I would wait a couple of weeks before adding additional fish.

So this is my solution. He’s open, good sign, but his slit and exit siphon is shut. I think he’s still stressed. Going to give him as much time as I can and then see if the clownfish will finally ignore him. She hasn’t tried to go near him since he’s been in his cage.

That might not end well for the clown as well. Clams cam shut over a fish’s head and crush it.

So I decided to give this clam back to the person who sold it to me. She’s not going to live in my tank. I took the cage off, clownfish immediately swam over to it and bit it.

Those clams are significantly larger than the one I got. I’d be worried if it was my 9” maxima but this clam is only 3” and my clown is about 4 and a half. She’s going to kill the clam before it grows that big.

Alright everyone, so here's an update...
Almost a week ago I tossed in a plastic anemone on the other side of the tank. I figured, maybe this clownfish just wants something to claim her own and was hoping she'd be distracted by that. Long story short, she stayed away from the nem. I did see her fooling around in it once, but she seemed mostly disinterested. So disinterested that when I took it away, she just occupied the space it was in, weird. While that was happening, in the middle of the night I took the cage off of the clam (who's looking better by the way). For one whole day, yesterday, she didn't bother the clam at all. Good news! Hoping she just forgot about it. So last night when the lights went off I moved the clam a bit further away from where she usually hangs out to further solidify the clam in his new area away from the clown. Hoping this behavior sticks! Thanks everyone for commenting and helping. Cheers, Joey |
