Dragon Wrasse Unusual Disappearance
Hi, I wasn't sure how else to spark up conversations on why my boyfriend's dragon wrasse has been hiding for a full week now. The fish is going on a three week old fish, new in our tank of course. We had no issues with him the first week, it went great he hid for the first day upon bringing it home and like clock work came out about an hour after the lights are put on. At first I thought he was dead because my two cleaner wrasse had disappeared with out a trace. It's been a whole week not seeing this fish. And all of a sudden I noticed he's sticking out of the sand, comes out completely and grazes the sand all for two or three seconds and eats a little bit and dives back in the sand. What? Me and my boyfriend just look at each other in shock. Any ideas on what could be wrong or why he's in hiding so long or even maybe whether is he the type of fish that isn't a swimmer around the tank like the rest of our fish.

Dragon wrasses are well known to bury themselves in sand and are also known to rearrange tanks. It can take a month or more for a new wrasse to become comfortable in it’s tank. They also often become very aggressive and will eat shrimp crabs and smaller fish. Not a great choice unless you have a very large tank with agressive fish and deep sand. I have a huge tank and a dragon wrasses would not a fish I would even consider despite the size of most of my fish.
