Test ammonia again...if zero then dose ammonia up to 1ppm again and see what happens...
Im a bit skeptical of your test results and would guess some error is at play here...

Life rock is just dry rock right?

You were absolutely correct. I knew something was not right. re-tested got.
Ammonia - 0.8 Nitrites - 0.2 Nitrates - 20

So thought to myself what did i do different.... I had my Daughter get me small cup of water.. She grabbed from the RO not tank. Mystery solved.

Thanks

We're new and having fun. We cycled our tank very similarly to how you did yours. After a week, we took water to our LFS, and he tested the water. He claimed the water was a ok and sold us some fish and coral. All are thriving, some coral doubling in size. We have had a bout of diatoms several weeks later, and now are facing some cyano. But all in all, we seem to be in good shape, knock on wood. Looking at a powerhead to help resolve the latter.

How long did it take for coral to double in size?
If less than a year, that's exciting....how you do this?

Was about a month, actually. A couple of zoanthids have done really, really well, one especially. A green mushroom thingy has done really well, also. I'm not sure the names, but very surprised at the growth.
