I'm back! What'd I miss?
So after taking a brief hiatus (see attachment), I'm thinking about getting back into reef building, and wanted to know what's changed in the equipment world.
Last I was at this for a reef tank, combo lights of PC / MH / LED for moon lighting were all the rage. Have LED-only systems been able to displace MH lamps yet? What about reef computers? What's the latest and greatest? I'm thinking of building as much automation as I possibly can, and doing a custom 9' tank now that I have space for it. Any other recent developments in the gear space? Thanks!

That's like 2 seasons back! If you're that far behind, I think it's fair game

LED systems are capable (and $$$ depending on bells and whistles)
Controllers IMO aren't nearly as "needed equipment" as they used to be as quite a lot of equipment now has built in controllers,etc.. like lighting has timers/dimmers,etc... pumps (wavemakers) have their own controllers.. Many don't think its worth it to spend money on a controller for salinity or ph monitoring.. Many don't care about pH and if your salinity is changing you messed up big time.. So why monitor them.. Carbon dosing/biopellets/gfo reactors allow people to run low/zero nutrient tanks quite easily now (so easy that many are starving their corals/tanks of valuable nutrients) And yes.. Game of Thrones is hot.. Well.. until people got ****ed this week about Danny and her Dragon Rage killing everyone.. And many of us fully expected and enjoyed it too..

For large systems that cost isn't too bad in comparison..
