Would like confirmation on Chaeto growth and water level
Hi fellow reefers. I have a situation that I would like confirmation that my logic is correct.
I have the Neptune ATK (with 2 sensors) in my return pump area of my sump. It’s configured to run once an hour. I have Chaeto in my sump. It’s grown using the Kessil H380 from 10pm to 10am PST. From 10am to 10pm, the ATK runs like clockwork. Every hour, the ATK runs from 10 seconds to a little over a minute. Starting around 10pm, the water level rises enough to cover the lower and upper sensor. If I leave it alone, enough water will evaporate during the day until the lower sensor is open or I need to manually remove water. My logic says that the reason this is happening is due to the fact that the Chaeto is growing and taking up more space causing the water level to rise. Is my logic valid? |

No, the cheato should no affect it at all. I don't know exactly how the ATK works. Normaly the water level should not raise above the second float. The whole purpose of the float is to turn off the pump when the water gets that high.

There is nothing wrong with the ATK. It comes on when the lower sensor detects no water and doesn’t when it does. I’m just wondering why at night does the water level in the sump raise a bit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Do you run your return pump at the same speed at night? How do you know your ATK is working perfectly at night?

I had an ATI T5 ballast make my temp sensor go crazy on an Apex Jr. Try to use another light or leave the Kessil off to see if the ATK still acting up.

Out of curiosity.... is there a reason why the time of your ATK fluctuates so broadly... throughout the day.... I dont use the ATK but the one I do use sends an alarm if it fills more than 10% of the prior fill. If not the cheato then perhaps the sensor needs a bit of a cleaning. Of course Im no expert.... but I am interested in what others may think is causing this

That’s why I’m trying to find out. Why the level of the water in the sump rises a bit during the night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
