Reefer 625 refugium question

I am getting back in after almost 9 years. I went all in with a new Red Sea reefer 625. Stand is built, tank lifted (4 people for that beast), lights on, and sump in the base.

I had always put a DSB in my sump, but I curious how to go about doing this in this sump. I started putting sand in but realized the glass is too low after the filter cups. Do people use them? If not I could use the glass in the return area instead, but now where would I put filter media and activated charcoal?

I will take pics later
