Limpet ID?
Does anyone know what kind of limpet this is? A good one or bad? Do they all eat coralline algae?
Thanks Last edited by Zpmada; 06/22/2021 at 08:26 PM. |

You will come to BEG for something to eat coralline algae. If you have any scarcity of it, keep your parameters where mine are in the sig line---most particularly the magnesium. It thrives on magnesium.
I must have over 50 limpets, a little steeper and looking smaller than yours, and have never known them to harm anything.

My parameters are:
Salinity: 1.026 Temp: 72.9F pH: 8/8.15 Alkalinity: 8.5dkh Nitrate: 0.2ppm Phosphate: 0.05ppm Calcium: 440ppm Magnesium: 1400ppm Potassium: 420ppm This is all 10 days AFTER a 10% water change and no dosing of anything. Seemed odd. Thought I would have to dose something after 10 days. |

Your salt mix contains all needed traces. It's not just sodium chloride. Dosing is only to keep alk/cal/mg levels up when you have a lot of stony corals sucking calcium like mad: all other needs are satisfied by water changes, which of course brings in fresh salt mix. When your tank passes five years old, you may need to do some repeated major water changes to renew these balances, but that's far in the future.
