What is happening to my Leather Coral?

I recently had to cut off a bottom chunk of my leather coral that had started to decay. I cut off all of the decaying matter and the remaining part looks very healthy and open. The cut is slowly closing but right above it there appears to be some sort of bumpy growth starting.

Is it a new head of toadstool? (wouldn't that appear where the cut was made??)
Is is some sort of infection or negative growth?
Thanks! Pics being added soon
