Every thread I've seen about it has resulted in the coral no surviving long at all. Which is sad. It really needs to stay in the ocean, or hang out at one of the Live Food labs (Reed Mariculture, etc) where they can feed one unlike we can. It would be interesting to see if they could keep one alive.

iTS NOt as difficult as what other are projecting gorgonian to be. Look at my red gorgonian, its as gorgeous as ever. Feedings,
strong water flow, and some larger dosages of iodine help a lot. Brush off any algae. |

shanghaireefer - that is true about other gargonians, but this one still hasn't been figured out yet, and they die quickly. Weatherson (TOTM currently) had one and it didn't survive either. And his system has pretty much everything a coral could ask for. Apparently, these ask for something we simply can't provide. Yet.

i'm going to have to agree with Marc, there is no sense in spending money and taking a life. i appreciate you trying to help shanghaireefer but i was hoping that someone had figured out its needs and had it thrive in their own system. aparently not. this might be one of the ones best left in the wild.
thanks Felix

Blueberry Gorgonia is Non-Photosynthetic,i was a non beliver @ first to,thought i could keep anything alive cause i have no life, therefore my husbandtry skills are way up.I was turning off all flow,& target feeding this coral like nobodys business,& it still died.So you know i have never killed anything before.I even got a eletric flame goin on 7mo.Here is a pic the day before it died,1-day healthy lookin, next day when i came home from work dead.

Really! It died literally overnight, like RTN perhaps?

I have a little one going on 3 months. That is scary though that it could look that good and then die.

I currently have two types of Gorgonian, the Red Gorgeous one and the blue one. Attached are the pictures. Red one is my favorite ,see the small white polyps extending everytime i add iodine. It looks very healthy with plankton feedings every two to three nites. Will appreciate if Melev would kindly comment on this type of gorgonian. I have this for two months now.
I am also attaching my blue gorgonian. I dont know if this is thebluebery gorgonian you are referring to. Mine has blue stem/trunk/branches unlike the other picture shown in the brown colored one. Is my specie a different one, slightly hardier? So far its within me for about four months . It was my favorite until the Red Gorgonian came. Would love to receive your comments. It makesenthusiasts like me nervous, thinking suc ha gorgeous gorgonian would be that beautiful and just get wasted the next day. What is the explanation here? I have fellow aquarists, who had gorgonians too, but they wither first and die after several weeks, not overnite. Was ther any other possible underlying causes ? How about the other creatures in the tank ? I have followed every gorgonian thread I come across, and have for years. If I have seen any nonphotosynthetic success for more that 18 months I can't recall it. Maybe an orange or red finger or two. Maybe not. Never a blueberry.

Shanghai Reefer, those are different. And they are beautiful. Keep up the good work, and hopefully a year from now you can tell us how it is still doing well. That isn't a challenge, I'm being sincere. If you can keep it alive for 1.5 to 2 years, I'm positive others will want to know what exactly you are doing to accomplish this feat.

We'll also want to know how to find them. I've never seen a gorgonian in a LFS like his red one. Wow. It's a beauty.
