yellow MH lights?? PLEASE READ
I've been reading allot of posts lately about certain 10K MH lights supposedly being YELLOW brand new out of the box.
Hopefully after reading this maybe you'll be able to relieve the stress of returning bulbs, calling technical support and so on. IN every MH bulb there is a glass chamber that has gas in it. On that chamber there is a nipple. if the nipple is pointing down towards your tank, it will corrupt the phosphors inside of that glass chamber causing it to ARC and change the spectrum. This will make it appear YELLOW. This is true for XM and every other MH bulb out there from Iwasaki to Coralvue. To correct this either screw or unscrew your MH bulb so that the nipple is poiting up towards your cieling. If you are using HQI MH bulbs simply flip them over. PLease don't try to do this when they are hot. If you are unsure of where this nipple is located, please see the following link http://www.cnidarianreef.com/images/misc/lamp_xm10k.jpg This is dicumented in believe it or not, the directions that come with the bulb. Also, it is documents in "The Reef Aquarium, VOL 3" by Delbeek and Sprung. HTH
