Unhappy Remora Pro problem after cleaning

I cleaned the inside of the Remora Pro, the injector area and the pump about a week ago after 4 months of running. Reassembled everything and started it up. The next day after work, if found my tank water low & the carpet wet. I have an overflow collection cup which drains into a container below the tank. The skimmer caused that much water to come out of the tank. Well, something happened that drained the tank, and I cannot figure it out. I got everything back to normal, then the next morning the same problem. I stopped the skimmer for a few days to let things dry out and to figure what happened. Still don't know!! Just started it up again and have a 5 gallon bucket for overflow.

Does anyone know why this could happen? The injector screw seems right and the bubbles are coming up through the tower tube ok. Bubbles are white & clear

I don't know about Remora Pro's, but had the same exact problem with a Red Sea Prism. I had to turn the air mixture way down and let it run almost like a hob filter until it built up a slight slime coat on the internal plastic pieces. Then I could raise the air level and let it skim and it would work; however, I still kept the 5 gallon overflow bucket.

If you can adjust it like that it would at least be worth a try.

The only adjustment is to raise or lower the collection cup. I added a extension to raise the cup up even higher. I have it now so the the bottom of the tube in the cup is even with the sections in the box. For those that have these may know what I am trying to explain. I don't have any air adjustments.

Sounds like something in the water overactivated the skimmer. Some water conditioners have this effect, but IME it can happen for no apparant reason as well. My Remora went nuts last week and I have no idea why; no hands in the tank, new foods, cleaning around the tank, additives...
IME you have to let it run its course. Raise the collection cup as high as you can, try running carbon to remove any chemicals, and replace the water that's pulled out with fresh SW. Eventually it'll settle down.

I guess I just have to wait it out like you say. Nothing has changed except the cleaning of the skimmer. Don't have a carbon or canister filter. I added quite a it of fresh SW. In the meantime, I'm leaving the skimmer off overnight since I can't watch it. I'll have plenty of time Sunday to watch it since we should be snowed in due to this blizzard.

ken123:

Clean the injection hole (unscrew first) with the supplied brush *again*. Go up and down with the brush the full length a dozen times and clean it thoroughly. This works for me. I think something is stuck in the nozzle part and causing it to over producing the "large bubbles" and not enough of the "small/micro bubbles". (It's normally the micro-bubbles which produce the skimmate)

I run an Aqua C urchin, which is essentially a remora designed to fit into a sump.
I recently cleaned mine with vinegar really well....when I started the skimmer after it was cleaned it generated a much larer amount of skimmate. It was so much more than I was used to that I let my collection cup fill so high that I wound up spilling most of it during emptying. SO basically the cleaning really got my skimmer going. Before the cleaning my collection cup would need dumping every 3-4 days. Now my collection cup needs to be dumped at least once a day!

Perhaps your problem is that because the skimmer has been cleaned so well, it now far more efficient, resulting in a flood on your floor. If my skimmer was was not an in sump model, I would have easily had a flood the first day after I cleaned mine....
