Probably going to spend it all on bulkheads for the 120g.

My tax refund won't be that big.. I'm 15 and work part time at a grocery store, but atleast I get all of the tax money back (make less than that set amount for federal taxes).

Well this years return will most likely go toward Dr. bills (I had a bit of an accident involving the tablesaw and my hand on Superbowl Sunday) and since I spent last years return on a new larger tank and new equipment that will be good for upgrades for a few years this years the return will go into home improvements other than my tank. But this weekend is a coral swap in my area so maybe the little woman will have some pity on me in my injured condition and let me get some new frags

Just remember - it is not a tax "refund"!

You are getting the money back that you earned that you allowed the government to use over the last year!

Sorry, didn't mean to get political!

I'm getting what I would consider a huge chunk back. See, this shows you can have realistic goals with your aquarium in mind.

-Pay off car so I can drive to the LFS and OMAS/COMAS meetings.
-Get glasses for the family so we can see the tank better.
-Go to the doctor to make sure everyone can live long enough to really enjoy the tank
-Pay some rent in advance so we can have a place to put our tank
-Save anything left over for college or broken tanks.

Isn't that the truth. My goal is to owe nothing and get nothing back, that way, I control the money.

I plan on writing a big fat check to Uncle Sam on tax day. I haven't finished entering deductions, but it could be as much as $3k. All that means is that I kept more of my money during the year, instead of paying it early. I'm within my safe harbours, so no penalties either.

This year my wife and i had our first child, and i am still in school so i don't cap out over the EIC limit. Therefore uncle sam gives me about 3,000 back regardless of what i made, i found it difficult to make the withholding match up to a zero return, so i will just be a fool and enjoy a fat check instead of some extra interest this year. Next year when i resume full time it will be near zero.

I am only getting 25 bucks. I owe on federal and I'm getting a refund from the state. When it is all said and done I get $25.

I am at the other end. My wife and I both have good jobs, so all the tax credits get phased out for us. They call that the Marriage Penalty Tax. So all my day care and child credits for both my kids are zero on my return.

Ouch, I will be in or near that boat next year. Not looking forward to it. On the other hand, I have to worry about every dollar I spend every day. Whereas you may not have to do that, so your position has it's benefits, just not at tax time.

Right. But, I will say the tax cuts that went through several years back has really helped us. The opponents of those tax cuts always claim it only benefits the rich. Well, we are not rich, with two kids a house and all the bills associated with it, we rarely had extra money to just spend. Now we do.

Although we still pay more taxes being married than if we were single, alot more money is in our paychecks now than under the old tax system.

I feel your pain as well, conda. We're not rich by any measure, but we do pretty well (I'm a software engineer, she's an attorney). Last year we paid uncle sam the equivalent of a nice shiny new SUV. Student loan deduction - nope, phased out. Roth IRA - nope, above the income limit, deductible traditional IRA - nope, too much income. We're even tiptoeing the threshold for phasing out itemized deductions.

I'm just hoping they fix AMT before we run seriously afoul of it.
