Question Temperature Swings: What is common for you?

Hey All,

I was wondering what is a typical temperature swing for you on a given day (summer/winter)? I do not run a chiller. Currently my temp swings are usually as follows:

Winter: 74 morning (lights on) / 78 night (lights off)

Summer: 80 morning / 84 night

Granted, I use digital thermometers (but I use two, 1 in sump, 1 in tank).

Are these temps bad?

I would have to say no they are not too bad, I prefer using a chiller that way my water temperature doesnt fluctuate as much. personally I think 84 is too high, but you will find many people that would say that there is not problem, just like I think 74 is too low too.

In my tanks, if the temperature drops below 76 degrees my corals start closing a bit, while if I keep it between 77 and 79 degrees they are fully open.

I hope this helps or answeres your question

Winter: 80° constantly, with the occasional 81°, when leaving a halide on too long (getting a new timer)

Summer: 82°-84°

Your temps listed are not bad, but 4° swings are. Maybe invest in a fan, or a controller for your heaters. I have no chiller, and use an Aqualogic controller. Turns my heaters off at 80°.

79.5-80.0 and thats it. Using an AC Jr. temp controller and its one of the best things i've done for my tank.

78º when the lights go on. 79º when lights go off. I guess it takes a lot of energy to heat/cool 300 gallons of water.
