Suction Cups wont suck! and that sucks...

What to use in place of my suction cups that are failing me? I had a maxi jet drop onto a Monti and fragged it for me.

Use a dollop of silicone on each cup; make an acrylic hanger to hold the MaxiJets; or, as I did, say screw it and buy a Seio and screw it to the wall.

Can you secure the cord outside the tank so that there is not much slack in the line. I made a loop and secured it behind the stand so that even if the suction cups fail, the pump may fall 2 inches. There isn't enough loose cord to allow it to fall farther. This doesn't prevent a sandstorm, but nothing gets broken.

Have you seen the I beiieve its a Rio mod where you cut off the cups and silicone it to one of the magnetic scrubbers that way you can move it where ever you want to.

or......buy new suction cups and replace them periodically. The silicon tends to harden over time and losses its ability to hold suction. They're not expensive.

you can soak the sucktion cups in vinegar for a few hours, this will soften the rubber and they will be able to suck again.

Take out the suction cups and boil them for 15 minutes or so, they'll be softened and renewed again afterwards.

now that's a great idea. not having to deal with stinky vinegar.

here's another great idea posted on the manhattan reefs site. Russ basically silicones small rare earth magnets in place of the suction cups.

I took the plastic hooks that came with my MJ's over to the kitchen stove (gas), heated them up until the became somewhat soft, and then remolded them to fit over the trim of the tank. While I can't hang the PH's as low in the tank as I could put them with the suck-tion cups, at least there's no way for them to fall off and it didn't cost me a thing (not counting the pennies I spent on the gas).

Indeed.

If you put your suction cups (on the bracket) in about a cup of water (I put them in rubbermaid containers with the water). Microwave it for like 1:30.. the water will be very hot so grab the bracket real quick and stick it onto clean (razor blade the glass) glass. Thats what I use for my one pump that isn't on a magnet.

I glued the bracket to a mag float and I also bought a couple of mounts from Nick's Acrylic Reef. Both work great.
