Tek vs URI T5's

I am thinking about upgrading my lighting for my 75. I have some leathers, mushrooms, xenia, and a cabbage coral. I currently use a Coralife 4x65 pc and a Coralife T5 2x29. I was thinking of ordering a Tek T5 4 bulb and also using the Coralife T5 2x29. From some of the posts I understand that there is a new T5 coming out in Feb/March by URI. What will be the major difference between Tek and URI? Would I be better off waiting for the URI?

IMO I think you will see the Beatles get back together (all four of them) before you see the URI T5's come out, but that is just my $0.02. I would go with the Tek and if the URI's do come out someday you can swap to them when you are ready to swap bulbs.

TEK makes fixtures and Retro's.

URI is the bulbs.....you are comparing the car to the engine.

URI has already OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED that they are releasing T5HO bulbs. Infact I believe ICECAP is already testing them.

So round up the beatles I guess.

I guess I asked the wrong question. Is there a big difference between URI and the TEK lightbulbs that it would be worth waiting for? I'm still a rookie at lighting.

Rich, it's in the URI T5 thread somewhere. ASH of IC announced that they were testing 'em. It's a reality, BUT we still don't know if the URI T5 actinics will be like the VHOs or not.

tek doesnt make light bulbs.

ati/ d&d/ geiseman do, as well as GE, and helios, and aquamedic i think(whatever the ones form drs foster & smith are).

tek makes fixtures, and reflectors( i bet they dont even make them- they farm them out i bet) , and they sell pieces they acquire from other manufacturers, that you put together and call them retrofits.

but, when UV lighting (formerly URI) makes their super actinic t5ho bulbs, i bet they will be leaps and bounds better than the ati/ d&d/ geiseman or current or whatever actinic bulbs are currently on the market.

most guys now dont use actinics on their t5ho setups. most use ati blue+ bulbs for that.
