heat problems

I have a 250W MH pendant hanging over my 37gal tank (30x12x24) and the tank has been reaching 86-88 degrees by the end of the day... i have the light only coming on 7 hrs a day now, and raised it from 8inches to 12inches i also added a fan blowing over the heat zone of the light. the tank now is at a steady 82degrees throughout the day, and about 80 at night.

my questions are:

How can i get the temperature lower (around 78 during the day) without a chiller?
Is the light too high above the tank? If not can i raise it more? i plan on keeping some high intensity corals/anenome.

I aslo have 4 powerheads in the tank... 2 for flow 1 for refugium and one for the skimmer. 3 of which are MJ1200's do they produce alot of heat?

thanks for any help.

Where do you have your heater set at? Why not set your heater at 78, so your tank will only go up to 80 when the halides are on. Do you have good surface aggitation. I have my halides 8 inches from the water and run 2x250w on a 72. I only have one small fan running and my temp stays a steady 78.5. It goes up a degree or so in the summer.

do you have a sump? If so,as wierd as it may sound, buy a little clip on fan and clip it to the sump so it blows on the water in the sump. It should bring it down a few degrees.
