Quick Newbie Question
Right now, I'm in the process of switch to SW. Currently in my tank, I just have the sand and water. I did not use a RO unit when adding the water. Can I just add the salt, let it sit a few days and then add my rock or do I need to take out that water.
It was not water I used with other fish. It is new water, just filled it up??? |

I strongly suggest to use RO/DI from very start. Or at least distilled water.
To your question about adding salt, very first time you can mix salt in tank. Subsequent water changes MUST be done with premixed salt water outside of the tank and match temperature and salinity of your tank's water. To mix it in tank, have water circulation running and keep temperature stable. Then add salt. Let it dissolve and mix well for at least a day. Then check salinity, and slooooowly adjust it. -- edit -- when you think you got salinity to what you'd like it to be, let it sit for another day, to make sure it stays at desired level. |
