suggestions on tall tank flow
Getting a 56 this week and have a horrible problem with my maxi-jets suction cups falling off.
Also the tank is 24" tall. Would like if I could get something powerful enough to attach towards the top and maybe add a hydro flow director to it? What would be strong enough to get towards the bottom? |

for a 56-gallon tank, three or four MJ1200s should be good. Having Hydor flow deflectors on them would be a big improvement, too.
The suction cups on MJs don't last very long and lots of people...including me...have done what you'll see in this thread: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...hreadid=786647 There are really a lot of other threads on the same issue but you should get an idea there at that one. If you use the magnets you can put the powerheads just about anywhere you want to.

Seios are a good choice too, I have to agree. A few of each would be a good mix and give your reef a good random, broad flow.

If it a high tank, say 21 inches or more, then IMO, you ought to get metal halide lighting if you want this tank to be a reef.
The powerheads that look like that are most likely Seios with the outer housing removed. Otherwise they're the more expensive Tunzes.

Put one side inside the tank, in the water, and then put the other side on the outside the glass AWAY from the other one. Then slide the two together. That way there will be no "collision" that can do any damage to the glass.
