Is this ro/di good?

Hey, Need to buy one soon.I called the local ro/di stores, and they want about 400$ for an ro/di ! Thats expensive, when I find them on ebay for only 125$.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/AQUARIUM-2-110GPD...QQcmdZViewItem

Worth it? Does it include everything? Can you find me a better one on www.ebay.ca ?

Yes it includes everything and yes it is a decent unit. Now you are going to hear people telling you to get a different membrain for it but there is no need for it as the one it comes with works just fine.

Same exact unit that I have. Been running it for a couple months now, still 0. Great unit. If you have a float inside or manually turn it off. I have mine filling a 44g brute and wastes into another 44g brute.

I think I will order this unit. Looks nice. Phosphates in the tap water are 3ppm! Ouch.

If you haven't already ordered, check out Aquasafe Canada on Ebay (search for aquasafe); they're shipped from Canada so the shipping is probably a bit less, plus no duty, etc at the border.

Hint for the Winnipeg water:
Change the sediment prefilter (ie the first cartrige) often; I change mine every 1-2 months (depending on the water usage)..

Here's my first prefilter at 4 months of usage...

Yes, the water here is packed with junk!

I just use cheap 5 micron prefilters from home depot or rona. They're sold in packs of 2 for $9.99.

If you change them out often you will prevent your carbon filters from plugging up with junk so quickly...

I have a Typhoon III from http://www.airwaterice.com Their customer service is excellent and their prices on replacement membranes and filters are very competitive. This unit produces 0 ppm TDS water, even though the tap is running about 600 ppm TDS. Very happy with this unit -- best $200 I ever spent on my reefs.

The 110gpd units have a lower rejection rate, ~90% rejection rate, so you will go through DI resin faster than you would if you used, for example, a 75gpd membrane, ~96-98% rejection rate.

Normally I would suggest going with www.buckeyefieldsupply.com because you can actually call him (forgot his name), and he will take the time to walk you through everything. The reason I say normally is because you are up in Canada and I'm not sure if they ship up there, but still worth asking.

Don't forget, everything starts with your water so don't skimp out on the cheapest biggest system. Ask around and talk to people with more experience. You will see that most will suggest airwaterice and buckeyefieldsupply.

Most importantly get a TDS meter. It will allow you to monitor your system and it's fun to check things like your tap water, your brita system, your work water, rain.... lol
