Question Over Skimming????

I'm going to setup a 70 gallon mixed reef. I plan to use an ETSS 800 Skimmer. The skimmer is rated for 150-400 gallon tank. What will happen if I over skim my tank?

I do not think you will get any different answer. You can not over skim your tank. The rating is more to estimate the maximum you can use it for.

That's why we have trace element supplements.

Skimming only works when there are organics in the water - if you remove the organics, the skimmer won't skim anymore. Thus, impossible to overskim.

Skimming may remove some trace elements, but it is very small in comparison.

The reason I posted this thread is cause I recently sold my 225 gallon tank. I still have this skimmer and would like to use it on my new setup. I plan to keep mostly SPS and a couple of LPS and softies. I didn't want to waste any more money on a new skimmer.

Everyone's opinion/advices are greatly appreciated. I hope/wish to hear more from others and will decide whether to use the ETSS or buy a new skimmer that is suitable for my new setup.

Thank you for everyone's time!

Sounds like it's gonna be a great tank Nick! Can't wait to see it.
