Pump It Up

As many, I am new to this hobby. I have been reading many of the posts but I can't seem to get a handle on the pumps. Everyone seems to use something different. I currently have a Blueline 70 HD external pump and I believe I am circulating 1000 gph which is strong enough to blow craters into my DSB. I'm not so sure I like this pump. It seems very noisy to me.

First, can anyone offer any input on this pump.

Second, how do you determine how many gph you need for flow.

Third, can anyone direct me to some articles from RC that will educate my more about pumps, flow, gph, etc.
