I'm talking about a two-sided with teeth thing that houses a standpipe.

the bottom of the 29 gal is more than likely tempered glass, which can not be drilled. drill the hole 1-3/4" hole in the side near a corner at the top or bottom and build the box around it. a 3 x 5" box should do it.

I just emailed All-Glass to find out which panels are tempered.

Well, I don't know what kind of flow I want going through my sump just yet. The sump is rated for 300 gph but I've had around 650+gph through it before and it handled just fine. The mag 5 has a threaded 1/2 inch output. I need the threads to plumb with pvc.

Well, I decided on a Mag 5. It should not be too much flow that the drip plate will be too noisey after I take the bio balls out. It gives me a threaded output, optional filter sponge when I do maintenance (detritus), and a grounded cord.

I'm trying to email Christian at wetdryfilter.com. He sells internal overflows. I tried two different addresses that are on his web site. Couldn't get through.

There I am contradicting my self. I'm always juggling my reef stuff in my mind.

I did a search on mag-drive pumps and couldn't find their flow rates for heights above 0 feet. I'm juggling sumps in my mind at night keeping me from getting any sleep! lol! The max flow through one of the sumps is 480 gph so I need a mag drive pump that will deliver that much flow at a height of 3.5 feet above the pump. Am I making any sense?

So what do any of you guys think: mag-drive 5 or mag-drive 7 to push ~480 gallons of water an hour at a height of ~3.5 feet--which is where the return pvc pipe will be connected to a bulkhead on the display tank?

Does anyone know how to get ahold of Christian at wetdryfilter.com? I've tried the new email address on his website and one he had before. His site says he's changing one of his email addresses but doesn't list it.

I drilled a section out of the back glass on my AGA 29gal. I mounted an external overflow. Return pump is a mag9 throttled back. Its a little much, i'd prefer the mag5.

Based on the Drain / Overflow Size Calculator www.reefcentral.com/calc/drain.php For 500 GPH your overflow should be at lest 8 liner inches with a 1" drain

Also based on the AGA website www.all-glass.com/services/techinfo.shtml your tank should not be tempered.

The 29 All Glass does not have a tempered bottom. I just bought 1 six months ago and had 2 holes drilled in the bottom for the overflow and return box. The AG website has a section in the FAQ that shows which tanks are tempered or not on the bottom.
I`m using a Mag 7 with a "T" off it to divert flow back in the sump if needed. With the 1" drain I never had to crack it open to divert flow and it gives a nice steady flow through the system

Im not using an overflow box on my 29, just a 90* elbo right off of my bulkhead turned straight up. I cut a 1/4' peice of pvc and put inside the elbo, then a round peice of guttergaurd, then another 1/4" peice of pcv over it. The 1/4" peices of pcv keep teh gaurd from moving around, its very sturdy. I did this so i didnt use up anymore space then i had to, since it is such a small tank Hope this helps

This sounds really good to me--diverting the flow makes more sense than throttling back on the return.

With the mag 7 the flow at 3 feet is 500 gph and at 4 feet it is 480 gph.

This in from Christian (on the widths of a 2-sided corner internal overflow):

Something like 5" x 5" should be fine; possibly a little smaller.

This is the sump I was thinking about because it would give me more room in my stand:

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...2&N=2004+22778

But, I could save a lot by customizing the one I have. Here it is:

http://www.petsolutions.com/Aqua+Cle...I-C-26-C-.aspx

The major reasons I don't like the one I have is that I couldn't fit a CSS65 skimmer in the return pump partition and I would have to buy 2 smaller heaters.

Can pumps for in-line pressure filters be used for direct sump return pumps?

It might seem like I'm beating these issues to death, but when I first started I didn't use these boards and ran up a credit card with stuff I don't need and now I'm forced to sell a bunch of stuff. I just want to make the right decisions now and besides I like this socializing anyway.
