Small Sump Plumbing Question

I went to look at a custom aquarium someone had built for them the other day, but the stand can only fit a very undersized sump beneath it. The tank is roughly a 120 gallon corner tank with a one side 36" long and the other side 28" long. The stand has a relatively small door and so the maximum size sump that I would be able to fit is 24"x13"x14". The tank will be primarily soft corals, so I'm not so much concerned with the health of the inhabitants as I am with the sump overflowing in the event of a power outage. I can put an anti-siphon valve on the water return, but the drain from the bulkhead might be a problem. I could plumb a shutoff valve there, which would work for water changes, but if no one was there to turn it off when the power went out it would be flood time. Any ideas?
